We've been using the same compass for over 15 years and it consistently delivers the most reliable way to create precision wheel arches in Lexan bodies. While the technique varies a little for different scales and types of bodies, the main idea is get a reference in the Lexan for the axle center, set your desired wheel arch radius on the compass, and then give it a twist to score the Lexan before folding and then tearing the arch off from the body. Be sure to check out our 12th scale rear axle dots to make this process even easier for 12th scale pan cars.
In addition we use this compass as our GO-TO when it comes to marking 1/10 tires for sidewall gluing. In conjunction with our 1/10 wheel center plugs and one of our Tire Glue Carousels, it is hands down the most accurate and repeatable method we have found to mark tires in preparation for sidewall gluing. Insert the center plug into the wheel, center the compass in the plug with your desired radius fixed in place (easily measured with calipers) and then gently run the compass BACKWARDS to lightly score the tire.
